How much Google Veo actually costs depends on where you access it. You can use Veo 3.1 through free Google Flow credits, a paid Google AI subscription, extra AI credit purchases, or developer billing that charges in US dollars per generated second. Those routes do not share one simple price.

This pricing guide separates them so you can see the cheapest route for manual video creation, higher-volume Flow use and API workflows without converting credits into pretend dollar values. The surprising result is that a paid plan is not automatically the cheapest way to get more Veo generations. Google separates daily free credits from paid monthly allowances, and upgrading replaces the free allowance rather than adding to it.

Free Flow can provide more raw Veo credits than Plus or Pro

Free Flow users currently receive 50 credits per day. If you use the allowance every day for 30 days, that amounts to up to 1,500 credits consumed over the month. Google AI Plus includes 200 credits per month, and Google AI Pro includes 1,000.

That does not mean the free tier is equivalent to a 1,500-credit monthly plan. You cannot save the 50-credit daily allowance for later, and unused free credits do not roll over. A free user can never build a 1,000-credit balance for a weekend production session. Paid users get a monthly pool they can spend as needed, along with the other Google AI plan benefits.

For someone who only wants Veo Lite or Fast and is happy to generate a few clips each day, free access can therefore beat Plus on raw video capacity. Pro becomes easier to justify when you need credits available in batches, want the wider subscription benefits, or need the option to buy additional AI credits.

Google AI subscription pricing and Flow credits

Google’s current UK consumer prices are £4.49 per month for AI Plus, £18.99 for AI Pro, £79.99 for AI Ultra 5x and £189.99 for AI Ultra 20x. The associated Flow allowances are 200, 1,000, 10,000 and 25,000 credits, respectively. Google’s Flow credit documentation also confirms that free users receive 50 credits per day and that paid monthly credits do not roll over.

Those are theoretical maximums based on one generation at a time. A request can create multiple videos, and Flow charges per generation rather than per prompt. Re-runs, variations and technically completed clips you decide not to use also reduce the number of finished shots you get from the allowance.

Google Flow pricing: what one Veo generation costs

Flow currently has three Veo 3.1 tiers. Lite is the cheapest drafting option; Fast trades more credits for faster production and greater capability; and Quality costs substantially more. Ultra subscribers get a 50% credit discount on Lite and Fast, but not on Quality.

One easy way to waste a monthly allowance is to start a run without checking the active model. Quality costs ten times as many credits as Lite for a non-Ultra user. Creators regularly notice credit balances dropping faster than expected after model changes, multiple outputs or repeated attempts. Check the selected model and displayed credit charge before approving a batch.

There is also a production-cost trap in treating every generated clip as finished inventory. The useful number is not the cost per generation but the cost per accepted clip. If a shot needs several variations before one is usable, multiply the generation cost by the number of attempts. That applies to both Flow credits and API dollars.

Is Google Veo 3.1 free?

Yes, Veo 3.1 is currently free to try in Google Flow for users without a Google AI subscription. The standard free allowance is 50 Flow credits per day. That is enough for five Lite generations or two Fast generations, but it cannot fund a single 100-credit Quality generation because unused daily credits do not roll over.

Free Flow access is different from a promotional Google AI subscription. Google also runs account, device, education and other time-limited offers from time to time. Treat those as temporary discounts rather than the base price of Veo because eligibility, duration and renewal terms can change. Check what your own Google account shows before assuming a promotion is available.

There is no free Veo 3.1 generation tier in the Gemini developer API. If you need programmatic video generation, plan for paid usage from the start.

Google Veo API pricing per second

Veo API pricing is separate from Flow. A Google AI subscription does not turn monthly Flow credits into API credits, and API spend is not deducted from your Flow balance. Google’s developer surfaces also show different configurations: the Gemini Developer API publishes audio-enabled Veo rates, while Google Cloud lists lower video-only rates. Developer pricing therefore varies by model, output resolution and whether generated audio is included.

For an eight-second clip, that works out to $0.24 for 720p Lite video-only, $0.64 for 1080p Lite with audio, $0.96 for 1080p Fast with audio, $2.40 for 4K Fast with audio, or $4.80 for 4K Standard with audio.

These figures assume every generated clip is accepted. If only half of your generations make it to the final edit, the effective cost per accepted clip doubles. For production forecasting, budget around the acceptance rate your own prompts and subject matter produce rather than the cheapest advertised per-second rate.

If you find older Veo 2 or Veo 3 API price tables, treat them as legacy. Google’s developer documentation moved new integrations to Veo 3.1 after the older Veo endpoints reached their shutdown date on 30 June 2026.

Choose Flow because you want its creative workspace, not because a rough credit conversion makes it appear cheaper than the API. Choose the API because a product or workflow needs repeatable programmatic generation. If you are still deciding whether Veo is the right model at all, compare it with the broader AI video generator market before optimising around one billing system.

Extra Flow credits, upscaling and the costs people miss

• Extra AI credits: Google’s dedicated purchase rules currently allow Pro and Ultra subscribers to buy more credits. Plus, users should not assume top-ups are available. Common purchase increments include 2,500, 5,000 and 20,000 credits.
• Auto-reload: Eligible users can set a credit balance threshold and automatically purchase another pack. This is convenient for production, but it removes the natural spending stop you get when a monthly pool runs out.
• Credit expiry: Free daily credits do not roll over. Paid monthly Flow credits also expire at the billing-cycle refresh. Purchased AI credits may have their own expiry terms.
• Multiple outputs: Flow charges per generation, so one request returning two videos can cost twice the model’s listed credit charge.
• 1080p upscaling: Google currently lists this at 0 credits for Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers.
• 4K upscaling: This is reserved for Ultra subscribers in Flow and currently costs 50 credits.
• Creative retries: A generation can complete successfully and still be unsuitable for the edit. Track accepted clips, not just successful renders.

Which Google Veo plan offers the best value?

Free Flow is the best starting point for most people testing Veo. The 50-credit daily allowance is generous enough to learn Lite and Fast, and using it over several days can provide more raw Veo credits than the lower-paid plans. The limitation is timing: you cannot bank the allowance for a large batch.

Google AI Plus makes sense for a small batch, not for maximum Veo credits. Its 200 monthly credits are easier to spend in a single session than the free daily allowance, but anyone buying Plus purely to increase Veo volume should do the math first.

Google AI Pro is the practical paid starting point for regular creators. The 1,000-credit monthly pool buys up to 100 Lite or 50 Fast generations and, unlike Plus, currently allows extra AI credit purchases when a project exceeds the allowance.

Google AI Ultra 5x is the first plan where the Flow economics change materially. You get 10,000 credits, and Lite/Fast generations cost half as many credits as they do for non-Ultra users. Ultra 20x extends the same model to 25,000 credits, but it only makes financial sense if you can use the capacity before the monthly refresh.

Use the API when Veo is part of a product rather than a manual editing session. The lowest headline rate is $0.03 per generated second for 720p Lite video-only output, but production budgets should be based on accepted output, resolution, audio and retry frequency rather than that floor price.
